My 101

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

My 1001 days are going to start on my birthday, 25th Jan 2009 and will finish on 23rd Oct 2011.

Below is my list, I will attempt to blog about each item as I complete it.  For more details see the Day Zero website.

These are in no particular order,

  1. Learn to drive.
  2. Find a penpal.
  3. Write a letter a month (0/34)
  4. Blog every day for a month at least once (0/31).
  5. Try 10 new foods (0/10).
  6. Read or re-read 100 books and write a short note about each one in my blog (0/100).
  7. Visit 5 museums.
  8. Have a “date” with Dave once a month (0/34).
  9. Have a massage.
  10. Go to the cinema on my own.
  11. Take a photo a day for a month (0/31).
  12. Take a photo of me and Dave together once a month (0/34).
  13. Watch The West Wing.
  14. Plan something special for Dave’s 30th birthday.
  15. Go to Midnight Mass.
  16. Go a month without buying takeaway coffee (0/31).
  17. Turn a photo of mine into a greetings card or notecard.
  18. Design a T-shirt and have it made into a shirt that I wear.
  19. Find my own personal style and embrace it.
  20. Wear make up once a week for a year (0/52).
  21. Apply to go on a gameshow.
  22. Cook a 3 course candlelit meal for Dave.
  23. Get my bra size measured every 6 months (0/6).
  24. Update my CV.
  25. Do Race for Life at least once.
  26. Drink a bottle of real champagne.
  27. Write a short story.
  28. Attempt to make an item of clothing from scratch.
  29. Learn to bead on a loom.
  30. Learn enough Italian to hold a decent conversation with my aunt.
  31. Buy a piece of furniture from a second hand shop and make it beautiful.
  32. Go to a dance class.
  33. Organise my craft desk and use it at least once a month (1/34).
  34. Join a reading group with Dave.
  35. Do the LOTR (film) trilogy in one sitting.
  36. Comment on a new blog a month (0/34).
  37. Go back to NI.
  38. Participate in one Gimme Your Stuff swap.
  39. Contribute to a public wiki.
  40. Contribute 1,000,000 grains of rice on Free Rice (0/1,000,000).
  41. Plan something for my sister’s 25th birthday.
  42. Get a passport.
  43. Make a scrapbook of a whole year.
  44. Cook something new out of each recipe book we own (1/17).
  45. Go out dancing.
  46. Pay off all debt (except fixed term loan and student loan).
  47. Spend a weekend with Vicky in Leeds.
  48. Aim to have £500 in saving at the end of the time period (0/500).
  49. Go to a gig.
  50. Buy 5 just because presents (0/5).
  51. Make collaborative recipe book and get copies printed up.
  52. Go to Norjam and stay at least one night.
  53. Organise a party for something, like the launch party I did before.
  54. Finish James’ quilt by his birthday (31/08/09).
  55. Donate blood at least 4 times (0/4).
  56. Send a postsecret.
  57. Do a shoebox for Romania at Christmas both years (0/2).
  58. Get Stephen Fry to send a direct tweet to me.
  59. Aim to read 25 non-fiction books (0/25).
  60. Cook christmas dinner all by myself.
  61. Try, just once, to eat fish pie, to make Dave happy.
  62. See a Shakespeare play that I haven’t seen.
  63. Spend a weekend with my sister in London.
  64. Do another proper photoshoot with Alys.
  65. Write a letter to a newspaper.
  66. Set up a new filing system on my computer and spend a couple of hours cleaning my computer up.
  67. Back laptop up once a month (0/34).
  68. Go out drinking in London.
  69. Visit Castle Museum in Norwich.
  70. Go to Ikea.
  71. Make a video even if it is of an event.
  72. Discover a new perfume I like and buy it.
  73. Get in contact with an old friend, not found through facebook.
  74. Get a picture I have taken printed and framed.
  75. Paint a picture.
  76. Discover 3 new groups or artists that I like (0/3).
  77. Go 6 months consecutively without buying any new books (including charity shops!)(0/6).
  78. Walk to work every day for a week. Repeat at least 5 times (0/25).
  79. Go to see an opera.
  80. Go to see a ballet.
  81. Bring packed lunch to work every day for a month (0/20).
  82. Go to a comedy club.
  83. Put a bunch of flower on my desk at work once a fortnight for 6 months (0/12).
  84. Clean my desk! And keep it clean!
  85. Give at least one handmade present.
  86. Make Dave breakfast in bed.
  87. Go to the dentist.
  88. Be in the audience of a TV show (live or recording).
  89. Go a full 7 days consecutively without touching the computer for anything but work (0/7).
  90. Clear and organise both my work and home email inboxes.
  91. Organise a dinner party for 6 people.
  92. Send a random text message to someone in my mobile phonebook once a week (1/143).
  93. Get my body fat percentage down by 20% (0/20).
  94. Not start any new notebooks until I have finished the ones I have on the go – Use one at a time as necessary (work/home/guides etc).
  95. Go to Madame Tussauds.
  96. Do something to say a proper thank you to Dave, for all of his support whilst I have been ill.
  97. Eat in a Michelin starred restaraunt.
  98. Go abroad.
  99. Stay up past 10pm every night for a month (0/31).
  100. Organise a Norfolk tweetup!
  101. Plan my next 101 things for the next 1001 days.

So, that is my list, the date I start is the 25th Jan, I shall try to post updates for as many I complete as possible, and photos if I can. Keep checking back for updates!
