Voucher Hub – Review

Posted by Becca on Jul 25, 2010 in links, reviews

I’m probably a bit of a marketers wet dream.  I love a freebie, vouchers are like my new best friends and tell me I’ll get money off when I spend more and I’ll love you forever.

So when I got an email from fuel my blog asking for people to review Voucher Hub (in return for a threadless voucher none the less!) I was chuffed to bits.  I’m always on the lookout for ways to save money and thought I could probably give Voucher Hub a run for its money.

The thing about voucher sites that often puts me off is that you never know how reliable the links are going to be.  Voucherhub gets away from this problem by encouraging users to vote with a click when the voucher does or doesn’t work for them… and it is that simple, you don’t even need to log in (which makes a real difference).

The links at the top making searching the site dead easy – it breaks down all vouchers by the following categories “voucher codes”, “expiring soon”, and “restaurant vouchers”.  The search function is great, you can choose to search either by product or store, depending on what you are looking for.  Lets take an example of pizza…

Currently if you search for pizza you get a choice of 10 sites to look at, including the big names, like dominos, pizza hut and pizza express.  The variety of vouchers is huge, but you are bound to find something to make your meal much better value for money – doesn’t it always taste better that way?

Finally, if you have a voucher of your own, just add it using the form, its easy to do, and again, no registration necessary.  These guys really want you to share your moneysaving ideas and tips with them.  It seems only fair, if you benefit that you help others.

I guess one of the down sides of this site (if there are any!) is that it’s kinda easy to end up spending more than you planned, but as long as if you need to you show a little restraint, it can really help, especially if you already have a purchase planned, why not save?!

New project!

Posted by Becca on Jul 17, 2010 in craft

I’m really pleased with my little Saturday evening project. I bought a parasol to keep the sun off elegantly, but it’s a pain to carry when it’s down, so I set about creating a bag to carry it in, and these 2 pics show the result!

What do you think?!

I have a copy of this photo on my desk. It is from the wedding of our good friends last year and looking at it just makes me happy, and proud to have been a part of their special day.

To Mr and Mrs Taylor!

Day 06 – Whatever tickles your fancy – An ode to the fine city of Norwich

Posted by Becca on Jul 15, 2010 in 30 days challenge, Uncategorized, craft

So today’s topic is “ladies choice” and having just heard the news that Norwich has been overlooked for City of Culture 2013 in favour of Derry, I thought I would take the time to tell you about some of my favourite parts of the city, and what makes it tick for me… So ladles and jellyspoons here goes!

(PS this will NOT be in rhyme!)

So, these are a few of my favourite places in Norwich (and the surrounding areas!)

The Forum

I visited the British Library once, on an A Level trip, and was totally in awe of the place, I adore books, and libraries are very special to me.  I’ve never been inside one which is quite as special as the Forum, not only is there a wonderful selection of books, and music and wonder, but there is so much information about Norwich and beyond.  The big open space at the front plays host to salsa classes, comedy nights, craft fairs, and much more.  BBC Look East comes from there, you can get pizza, coffee and music.  It is a pretty special place and I don’t think I realise how special it is at times.

Whitlingham

I first discovered the broad when I was a 3rd year at the UEA, a local friend took us there one sunny sunday afternoon.  Whitlingham is (I believe) an old quarry, which is now full of water and home to some amazing wildlife.  The walk around the great broad is about 3 miles and takes you alongside the river yare.  There is also the mini broad, which is a bit like a lake with a beach, and is very serene to sit by.  My old boss, Tracy (you should DEFINATELY read her blog!) and I had a team day there to gather our thoughts and find some direction.  It was a wonderful experience and one I would definately repeat.  Get out into nature, not in a touchy feely way, but let the office melt away, its amazing what you’ll achieve.

The Fat Cat

Most of the boys in my life adore the fat cat, and I have come to love it, though am not a real ale drinker (fruit wines though are a totally different kettle of fish! and those are very much available here!) and I’ve spent many a pleasant evening whiling away the hours with various groups of friends at the fat cat.  It is also a little bit revered by many people in Norwich, and a bit of an old man’s pub.  But I love it none the less.

Wroxham Barns

Though technically not in Norwich, I wanted to include Wroxham barns because it makes me happy.  Wroxham barns has 2 big appeals – animals and crafts! The animals part is a junior farm where you can go and get a bit hands on with the animals.  Its for kids especially, but I’m a big kid really! We can’t wait to take J, our nephew for the day soon.  There are also a whole bunch of craft shops and studios which I love to just go and immerse myself in, as well as shops selling local produce (including AMAZING fudge!) and products.  There is also a funfair and crazy golf I think, but I’ve not been in that part.

And so, the list is by no means exhaustive, it’s just an off the top of my head list, I love the city I live in and it is nice to remind myself why.  I think I’ll revisit this list again another time and add to it.  In the meantime.. tell me, what places in your hometown do you love? Or have you been to Norwich? What do you love here?

Day 05 – Your Favourite Quote.

Posted by Becca on Jul 14, 2010 in 30 days challenge

I’ve got a thing about quotes.  I used to have one at the bottom of my email signature that I changed regularly.  Maybe I should redo that.  But the best quote that has ever been shared with me is the following

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

Gandhi said this, and I truly think it is a wonderful sentiment to live by.  It feels so powerful, its not just about treating others how you want to be treated, or believing in yourself, though I do think this is part of the message, but to me it feels like it is saying, go out there and make things happen, for you, your family and the rest of the world.  Don’t just accept the norm, make change happen.  And that is pretty special.

So, blog readers, go out there and make things happen for you and the people you love.  Noone else will.

Day 04 – Your Favourite Book

Posted by Becca on Jul 13, 2010 in 30 days challenge

I LOVE LOVE LOVE to read!

I should totally make a list of all the books I’ve read this year (that is a whole other blog post though!)

I’m going to cheat though, and not pick a book but a series of books.  I love the Rizzoli and Isles series of books by Tess Gerritsen. Jane Rizzoli is a tough guy cop and Maura Isles is the medical examiner she works closely with

Day 03 – Your favourite TV show

Posted by Becca on Jul 12, 2010 in 30 days challenge

Another favourite one…

We watch a lot of TV shows on dvd, I’m sat watching supernatural as we speak!

I think though, my all time favourite one would have to be Veronica Mars – Kristen Bell plays the feisty teenage PI who helps her father solve mysteries all across town.  Its such a great show – I was gutted it never got past 3 seasons.

Day 02 – Your favourite movie

Posted by Becca on Jul 11, 2010 in 30 days challenge

Oooh another tough one.

I think today might have to have a list…

  • I love Blade (and the rest of the trilogy)
  • Big fan of The Commitments (see yesterdays discussion on my love of soul music)
  • Calamity Jane – great film, always makes me feel happy
  • I love love love 10 things I hate about you

I think this challenge might get hard if I have to chose favourites of everything!

Day 01 – Your favourite song

Posted by Becca on Jul 10, 2010 in 30 days challenge

Today’s question asks about my favourite song.

It is a fairly tough question to answer, and it probably changes from day to day.  I love music of most kinds. My absolute favourite though is probably Motown and soul.  I was bought up on this music, the story goes that this is where mum and dad’s music tastes met in the middle (he is a rocker, she loves pop and country and western) but when they got married and amalgamated their record collections they doubled up on quite a lot of soul music.

I think, today’s song of the day is “Sitting on the dock of the bay” by Otis Redding.  Its a gorgeous soulful song and makes me feel happy.
